Your Inspector
Hi, I'm Jonathan Yancey...
Owner and operator of Geronimo Home Inspections. My family and I are long-time Texans who fell in love with the beauty of the greater Ozarks area, its people, and all the opportunities this area (Southwest Missouri) has to offer our home. Simply put, we are a Christian family with a passion for homesteading.
Our namesake “Geronimo” holds personal significance, stemming from my service as an Infantry Officer in the United States Army where the term was the motto of sorts for the 1st-501st Parachute Infantry Regiment (PIR) Airborne. It uniquely connects my military past and, in a small way, honors the exceptional individuals, the “True Men,” with whom I had the privilege of serving alongside.

Interesting Note!
The home inspection industry is not a licensed or regulated profession in the state of Missouri. As such, there are no state-mandated requirements for becoming a home inspector or for the content/ conduct of a home inspection.
Although it is not required, many in the real estate industry, i.e., real estate agents, will not recommend or refer home inspectors who aren’t nationally certified. The term “nationally certified” can be somewhat subjective, but it typically refers to passing the NHIE, administered by the Examination Board of Professional Home Inspectors. This nonprofit organization helps states throughout the nation establish a baseline of competencies within their regulated industries. However, the board itself is not a governing authority nor a licensing platform.
Numerous professional organizations and associations provide resources and coursework to help inspectors prepare for the NHIE. Membership in these groups typically requires a NHIE certificate of passing. However, they do offer their own internal levels of certification in lieu of or in addition to the National Home Inspector Examination (NHIE). Such membership establishes marketing credibility for many inspectors, along with access to continuing education opportunities.
Of note, the two most prominent national associations are the American Society of Home Inspectors (ASHI) and the International Association of Certified Home Inspectors (InterNACHI). Most home inspectors in Missouri are likely to be affiliated with one of these groups and operate according to their association’s published standards of practice and codes of ethics. Of note, to become a licensed Professional Inspector through the Texas Real Estate Commission (TREC), I had to complete 194 hours of state-approved coursework through a licensed provider and pass the NHIE.
